Energy Community Regulations
Hypha Energy operates across multiple jurisdictions, each with its own rules for energy communities, shared solar, and peer-to-peer energy trading. This page summarizes the general framework that applies to community energy projects. For country-specific rules, see the localized pages below.
What is an energy community?
An energy community is a legal entity that allows citizens, businesses, and local authorities to jointly produce, consume, store, and share renewable energy, typically governed by EU Directives (RED II) and national implementing legislation.
Who can join
Membership is generally open and voluntary to residents, small businesses, and local authorities within a defined geographic or grid area, subject to local rules.
Billing and energy sharing
Shared energy is typically settled through the local Distribution System Operator (DSO) using a virtual or physical allocation key, with the resulting savings reflected on members' energy bills.
